Everton have been dealt a double blow after losing two key strikers within just a few days.
French international Louis Saha limped off the pitch during Everton’s 1-0 defeat at the JJB Stadium to Wigan on Monday 24th November, which ended their unbeaten run.
The 30 year old ex-Manchester United striker suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to face a lengthy lay off.
Manager David Moyes was without striker James Vaughan for the match after he twisted his knee and suffered knee ligament damage during training on the Friday before.
Moyes will be without the 20 year old, who is the Premiership’s youngest goal scorer, for at least three months and will also need to undergo surgery.
Vaughan had only just returned to action following ligament damage to his other knee, which made him miss the majority of the 2005/06 season and the final three months of last season. He has only made two starts for Everton this season.
Knee ligament damage is usually caused by sudden change in direction, moving the knee beyond its limit or falling awkwardly on it.
Variations of knee ligament damage include:
• Anterior cruciate ligament rupture
It is important to rest the knee upon ligament damage, but to also carry out mobilising exercises to maintain movement. Applying cold therapy, such as the Vulkan Instant Ice Pack, will help to relieve pain and reduce discomfort.
Upon return to training, wearing a knee support will provide additional support and compression. We recommend the Vulkan Knee Wrap, Vulkan AE Knee and Vulkan Elasticated Knee Support.
