Mixed incontinence is the combination of stress incontinence and urge incontinence. Very often people leak urine when they cough, laugh, sneeze, etc…as well has having the urge to urinate frequently. The two conditions are often found together and are usually a 60%-40% combination of stress and urge incontinence.
Each aspect of mixed incontinence should be examined by your doctor or continence advisor. Usually either stress incontinence or urge incontinence will cause more of a problem than the other. Your doctor will help you establish this so you can focus on dealing with the most frequent symptom first.
Mixed incontinence is most commonly found in older women, however, it can occur at any point and in anyone.
Treatment for mixed incontinence usually includes a variety of treatment methods, including pelvic floor exercises, biofeedback, medication and surgery. The symptoms of mixed incontinence should disappear over a period of time, however, it is common that urgency symptoms will require long term medication.
